Carbide Punch
Definition :
A tool used to create an impression in a metal and can be made from solid carbide and available in many shapes and forms such a round, square, D and used for piercing, perforation, pilot.
Conveyor
Definition :
Normally a motorised continuous chain or belt (conveyor belt) for conveying components
Cutting tool
Definition :
Various shapes and sizes and worked by hand or machinery, consisting essentially of a thin blade or disk of metal
Decoiler
Definition :
A mechanical reel used to dispense steel coil material normally in to a power press or rollforming line.
Design
Definition :
A graphic representation, especially a detailed plan for manufacture.
Die Spring
Definition :
Helical spring manufactured from spring steel wire or chrome vanadium.
Drafting
Definition :
The systematic representation and dimensional specification of mechanical structures.
Feeder
Definition :
A device that feeds material into a machine for further processing, normally pneumatic or mechanical.
Gas Spring
Definition :
A type of spring that, unlike a typical metal spring, uses a compressed gas, contained in a cylinder and variably compressed by a piston to exert a force. Gas springs are used frequently used in press tools or plastic moulds to manufacture pressed components or plastic parts.
Guarding of machinery
Definition :
Normally via a mechanical means such as mesh or fencing and also via electric light guarding or safety curtains.
Guide Bush
Definition :
Used as a component in the manufacture of a press tool, die set or plastic mould and paired with a guide pin.
Guide Pin
Definition :
Used as a component in the manufacture of a press tool, die set or plastic mould and paired with a guide bush.
Hydraulic Press
Definition :
A hydraulic mechanism for applying a large compressive force and used in conjunction with tooling to produce press metal parts. It is the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical press.
Manufacturing
Definition :
The use of machines, tools and/or labour to produce a finished product.
Metal Stamping
Definition :
A method that can encompass punching, coining, bending and several other ways of modifying raw metal material.
Metrology
Definition :
The measurement of surfaces, quantify physical size, calibration, used in quality assurance procedures.
Nitrogen Gas Spring
Definition :
A type of spring that, unlike a typical metal spring, uses a compressed gas, contained in a cylinder and variably compressed by a piston to exert a force. Nitrogen gas springs are used frequently used in press tools or plastic moulds to manufacture pressed components or plastic parts.
Progressive Stamping
Definition :
A metalworking method that can encompass punching, coining, bending and several other ways of modifying raw metal material and usually combined with an automatic coil handling and feeding system. Also known as follow on tooling.
Punch
Definition :
Used in metalworking. A tool used to create an impression in a metal and can be made from HSS, solid carbide, TiCN coated and available in many shapes and forms such a round, square, D and used for piercing, perforation.
Roll Forming
Definition :
A continuous bending operation in which a long strip of metal (typically coiled steel) is passed through a consecutive set of rolls, or stands, each performing only an incremental part of the bend until the desired cross-section profile is obtained. Roll forming is ideal for producing parts with long lengths or in large quantities. Also spelt rollforming.
Tool making
Definition :
A process whereby a toolmaker (Tool and Die maker) being a highly skilled tradesman manufactures press tools, jigs, fixture, molds, gauges and other tools used in the manufacturing process.
Uncoiler
Definition :
A mechanical reel used to dispense steel coil material normally in to a stamping press.
